Martin Huba

Actor
Martin Huba was born in Bratislava. He graduated in acting from the Academy of Performing Arts in 1964. His first engagement was at the Košice Theatre (24 August 1964 - 15 June 1967), then at the Poetry Theatre (24 August 1967 - 30 June 1968), at the Theatre on the Promenade (1 July 1968 - 30 June 1971) and at the New Stage Theatre (1 September 1971 - 30 June 1976). Since 1976, he has been a member of the SND Drama Theatre. He is a guest performer in Prague and Brno. From October 16, 2005, to April 15, 2006, he was the director in charge of the SND Drama Theatre. He was an acting teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava for over thirty years. He is a member of the Academic and Arts Council of the Academy of Performing Arts.
Since the 1990s, he has been a theatre director. He has directed at the SND Drama Theatre and Opera, the State Opera in Banská Bystrica, in Bratislava, and the Summer Shakespeare Festivals in Prague. He also collaborates intensively as a director with the Jókai Theatre in Komárno. He collaborates with Czech theatres and performs on television and in film.

1983 - prize of the Association of Slovak Dramatic Artists for the character of Tobor in the production of the play Zámka škripí [The Lock Squeeks]
1986 - prize of the Association of Slovak Dramatic Artists for the character of Norman in the production of the play The Dresser
1988 - A. Bagar Award for the character of H. Ch. Andersen, in the production of the play From the Life of Earthworms
1997 - award for the best male actor for the role of Zevakin in the production of N. V. Gogol's play Marriage
1998 - annual prize of the Literary Fund for an extraordinary performance as Zevakin in the production of the play Marriage
1999 - Alfréd Radok Award for male actor as Bruscon (Bernhard, The Showman, Theatre On the Balustrade)
2001 - Crystal Wing in the category Theatre and Audiovisual Art
2001 - the DOSKY Award for the best production of the 2000/2001 season M. Huba and M. Porubjak's Dancehouse, the award for the best director of the play Dancehouse
2001 – Literary Fund Award for the direction of the production Dancehouse
2001 - Karel Čapek Award
2002 - Award of the Minister of Culture for directing and co-authoring Dancehouse
2003 - State award of the President of the Czech Republic V. Havel - 1st-degree medal for outstanding artistic achievements
2007 - Czech Lion Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Jiří Menzel's I Served the King of England, which became the most successful Czech film of 2006
2007 - Annual Prize of the Literary Fund for the character of Henrich in the production of the play Ashes and Passion
2007 - the DOSKY Award for the best male actor for the role of Henrik in the production of Christopher Hampton's play Ashes and Passion
2009 - Annual Award of the Literary Fund for directing the play Amadeus and for the character of Karenina in the production of the play Anna Kareninová
2010 - Tatra Banka Foundation Award for Art in 2010 Audiovisual, Film, TV: for his performance in the films Kawasaki's Rose, Three Seasons in Hell
2013 – Actor's Mission (Trencianske Teplice Art Film Festival)
2015 (for the year 2014) - annual prize of the Literary Fund for the character of Ján Amos Komenský in the production of the play Labyrinths and Paradise by Ján Amos
2016 - Martin Porubjak Award (Festival Encounter / Meeting - Zlín)
2017 - Ľudovít Štúr Order of the Second Class for many years of extraordinary merit for the development of democracy, the protection of human rights and freedoms and the development of theatre and film art
2017 - Film Walk of Fame - memorial tile
2017 - (for 2016) Annual Prize of the Literary Fund for the character of God in the production of Mercedes Benz
2017 - Laureate of the Identification Code of Slovakia
2018 - the DOSKY Award for the best male actor for Matthias Clausen in the production of Gerhart Hauptmann's play Before Sunset, SND Drama Theatre Bratislava
2018 - (for 2017) Literary Fund Award for the character of Matthias Clausen in the production of the play Before Sunset
2019 - Czech Film Critics Award - The Best Actor (Talks with TGM)
2019 - Trilobit - Special Jury Prize of the Czech Film and Television Association FITES for the actor's portrayal of TGM (Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk)
